DIY weekend
Hi everyone and happy Saturday! I started off my long weekend in a bit of a creative slump - I couldn't decide what I wanted to paint and the empty canvas had just stared back at me all week. Yesterday, I was on my way to the recycling area in my apartment building, and I came across this little table destined for the dump. Despite its dirty, dusty, paint-chipped exterior, it was love at first sight! Yes, I fell in love with a table - I know - it's so sad. Anyway, I thought this little piece of furniture had great potential, so I lugged it back to my apartment (it was heavier than it looked!)
With great love and care, I did my best to give it a funky makeover with what little tools I had - my acrylic paints, small brushes, gift wrapping paper, a glue gun and an open afternoon with nothing else better to do. Nothing like working on something totally different to get the creative juices flowing again! Meet the newest piece of rescued furniture to move into my space.

One of a Kind Spring Show and Sale 2011
The One of a Kind Show was wonderful! This was my first trip to the show and I was not disappointed. There were dozens of booths to check out and my only disappointment was that I didn't have enough cash! I did make a couple of nice purchases though. It took about 3 hours for my friend and I to make it through the show (great way to burn some calories!) and I bet we still missed a few booths. I had to resist the urge to add yet another purse to my growing collection - there were so many great designs to choose from.
If you've never been, the show features beautiful, one of a kind items including art, jewelry, home decor, fashion, treats, ceramics and more. If you missed the show this weekend, be sure to check out the Christmas show later this year which runs from November 24 - December 4, 2011 (http://www.oneofakindshow.com/toronto). Here a few of my snaps from the show.
Yummy candy apples and cute cupcakes...mmm :)
...............................
Lots of gorgeous ceramics - I kinda wish I had bought one of these teapots
...............................
A handful of some of the great fashions at the show. Love that yellow dress!
...............................
I. Love. Jewelry. It's a miracle I didn't leave with some of these beautiful items. And those head pieces were just amazing - everyone should own at least one!
...............................
...............................
This booth had some great old journals and sketchbooks with leather covers and handmade paper. I bought one of the small ones. I don't know about you, but I love the smell of leather - I've been sniffing my book for days. Weird - I know.
...............................
...............................
This old cash register was not on sale at the show - it was being used by one of the vendors. Pretty neat huh?
...............................
...............................
A couple "cottage country" type items - cute little mushrooms and a water fountain.
...............................
...............................
I really liked the metallic finish on these sculpture-paintings and how the figures popped of the surface.
...............................
...............................
The collage above, along with the prints, were done by the same artist. She takes her inspiration from stories/fairy tales. I bought one of these prints (middle print on the left) - it's called General Maude Woman.
Love it.

Love it.

This booth featured artwork which used glass and recycled metal.
(And yes, you guessed it - that's Marge Simpson on the left!)

And finally, piggies made from old propane tanks - neat!
